Lipstadt has before this only written one historically relevant work (Beyond Belief). The rest of her books are popular reads with little scholarly significance, and her work in general falls into the category of popular Hoiocaust literature rather than scholarship. She is not regarded as a particularly important scholar by academics in the field of Holocaust studies, and it is inaccurate to describe her as such. Unfortunately, American political culture has a tendency to unreasonably elevate characters such as her who deliver a predictable message, as opposed to real experts.
