The Likud NEVER offered a solution to the demographic problem of the many Arabs living in a Jewish state. How can you maintain the Jewish character of the state in this way? This blindness started already in Jabotinsky's days. In his article "The Iron Wall" (1923), Jabo realizes that the Palestinians will not submit to Jewish rule except by force of arms. Well, those were Colonial Days, and such thoughts did not have to lead to other solutions. But a better solution was never found by Jabo's succesors: 1. Begin agreed, under Sadat's pressure, to have an autonomy for 5 years, after which he said he would insist on continued Israeli overall rule. (But he also worked to undermine the autonomy idea, and succeeded.) 2. Shamir never moved, and no ideas anyhow. 3. Netanyahu was pushed by Oslo. He submits to pressure, this man, but does as little as he can. No general idea, though. 4. Sharon got rid of Gaza, while intending to keep the West Bank as a group of Bantustans (his term) under Israeli control. I have more respect for the Feiglins, Kahanas, and settlers. Feiglin and Kahana at least kno/ew what they want: Transfer. They have a solution in mind. The messianic settlers know that the Messiah is coming, the Messiah is coming, so he will take care of the Palestinians. They have a plan. But Likud does not have a plan. This is the source of the Israeli tragedy for the last 30 years.
