Many European countries are officially Christian countries, their flags are crosse, in England your not even allowed to be king or queen if your faith is not Church of England. Those countries have plenty of people from all faiths but they don't mind the country being classed as christian. Israel has non jews and non of its national symbols represent them, the main language is hebrew but they have the same rights as Jews so does it matter if at an official the country doesn't represent your ethnic group? If one day the haredi do become the majority and we have Torah law so what of it, should we make it a criminal offence for them to have more than 1 child, you can't control demographics which is the reason Israel refuses to allow the palestinians a so called right of return because pretty soon the arabs will outnumber the jews because the average arab family has 3 children - every 1 child a secular jewish family has. Those 20% of arabs in Israel have a role to play in determining the future of Israel if they go out and vote we don't have to stop defining Israel as a jewish state so they can have their role to play. If we didn't allow the palestinians a ROR and we decided to not classifying Israel as a jewish state do you think the arabs would have a bigger role in the future of the state? Only demographics will give them a louder voice and not calling Israel a jewish state won't help them have the larger share of the population needed to have a louder voice.
