'a levantine heritage' - Helen Leggatt, is a story we heard about in george South Africa. It also mentions Italian prisoners of war shipped to South Africa. The stories of the Greeks and the Italians is very superficial but in Rhodesia, there were internment camps and the children went and talked to these people as 1 or 2 year olds(this was a different life to today) and they learnt some of the language, culture and stories, which my father kept to the end. Although I know of many people in South Africa, who were in Bulawayo t the beginning of the Second world war, I have not read or heard of these people in the internment camps and I would have thought these people would have been the ones to make great friends in this time as young people with absolutely nothing.
