You can support palestinian civil rights and self determination without supporting hamas (like many palestinians do) Also, black panthers anyone? There were militant factions of the civil rights movement as well, decades and decades of race related violence in America which still continues to this day. Not saying they are completely analogous. The mainstream of the civil rights movement was looking for integration and equality rather than being a nationalist/separatist movement. But that context does not change the fact that palestinians living in the OPTs (and to a lesser extent Israel proper) dont have the same civil rights. Lets not lie to ourselves and pretend thats not the case. Also, supporters of a Jewish Democratic state better hope Palestinian non-violent resistance and political agendas seek independent statehood. Because they good frame this as a civil rights issue, drop the plea for statehood, and ask Israel for equality and citizenship within the state. And they would get a lot of sympathy.
