Eldad hold?s up a very flattering mirror in which to regard the settler movement of which she is part. She usurps the heroic narrative of the American blacks in the time of segregation. I normally detest comparisons of Israel?s behavior with Nazi Germany, both when people try to equate the two, but also when such comparisons are used to downplay the suffering of the Palestinians (e.g. ?You think Gaza is bad? You should have seen the Warsaw ghetto!? etc.) In this case however, I would like to quote part of what Allan Bullock (in ?Hitler, a study in tyranny? 1952) has to say on Hitler?s policy towards the Slavic peoples, in order to show Eldad that a less flattering view of the settler enterprise is also possible.
