Israel has a narrow list of religions that it recognizes. Christian Protestants are not included. Probably most of the people reading this, from the world's free democracies, are not included. If they would have had the misfortune of being born in Israel, but being Israeli citizens, their marriages, their parents' marriages, would not be recognized by Israel. That is why there is a thriving business for Israeli citizens going to other countries to be married. And, dear Leonard, I haven't even begun to talk about the religious bigotry laws in Israel.
