Consider the date: The fire broke out on the first day of Hanukah. Lighting fires is the early custom that gave rise to the customs of Hanukah, so a fire on Hanukah is not an accidental event. But then, how is Hanukah related to any reason for Israel to be punished? I think the only reason that makes (human) sense is that Hanukah nowadays is celebrated as a holiday of national freedom (due to the Maccabean acts), and the punishment is related to the freedom issue. Whose freedom? Israel does not suffer from lack of freedom, but the Palestinians have their freedom denied by Israel. Here is the cause for punishment. May I suggest that you ask your children to donate their Hanukah Gelt for some good Palestinian cause. This will be a signal to God that you understood His message. He might relent if you repent.
