Well ... I'm an American and -- I'm ashamed to say it -- I speak only English. The idea of Israeli children learning to speak (and read) Arabic in the 4th grade seems to me brilliant? I agree with the positive responses ... that it will foster greater understanding between people, etc. And I would add one more consideration: as more non-Arabs become fluent in Arabic, the less would be the possibility of Arabic politician saying one thing in English, for example, and an opposite thing in Arabic. We'd know exactly what they mean.
