Ever since he abandoned his Canaanite unrealistic project, after the war of independence, he's been very consistent in his support for the self-determination right of Israeli Jews. Furthermore, his support for a two-state solution based upon the 1967 border, is now supported not only by the Zionist left, but also by prominent Likud figures such as Dan Meridor. We have to acknowledge that when it comes to core issues, Avnery was right. Nonetheless, his friendship with anti-Zionists and his refusal to acknowledge the fact that Yassir Arafat did nothing to thwart terrorism during the peace process, makes him irrelevant. He could've reached a broad audience, but instead, he tried to be accepted by the radical left. At the end of the day, he ended up totally isolated; rejected both by progressive Zionists and by the BDS movement.
