"They (refering to Levy's origional article) are optimistic texts that manage mainly to depress us by throwing in our face the magnitude of the gap in consciousness and politics between the present-day Middle East and South Africa of the 1990s." I think that was exactly Mr. Levy's point - to show how our situation could be changed, were we only to have men (or women) of vision and long-term forsight leading us. Sadly, neither we (Israeis) nor our neighbors seem to be interested in electing such people. I'm afraid we're all in for a very rough century; one of our own making.
