Leftist thing, i.e. treating people as you want to be treated, and promoting equality is on the decline in Israel. However, the Labor Party has been behind settlements for many years. What Barak is doing is not surprising. All Israeli prime ministers built settlements. Sometimes, labor built more settlements, even! Many people opposing what Israel is doing would be called racist. However, many bonafide Jewish socialists would have called Israel a racist state. Many Jews need to stand up and tell Israel and Israelis that they need to see that mistreating a minority is unacceptable, and the Israeli Left was not really earnest except for Rakah and Meretz. Labor was never truly a Leftist party, IMHO. It was not even a shadow of the Bund of Poland that truly was a Leftist group.
