The fall of Assad will hasten the formation of Kurdistan. They already have a semi-inderpedant state in Iraq, complete with cities, oil and armies. As Assad's regime collapses the Syrian Kurds with break away from his control, and unite with their kin in Turkey and Iraq. Those in Iran will have to wait until after the likely comming war before they can emerge, though god knows what the middle east will look like after that...
