Whatever are the similarities between Hebrew and Arabic, the Hebrews did not originate in the sands of Arabia either, nor even in Iraq. According to the Bible , the Hebrew patriarchs originated in the region of 'Aram Naharayim', much of which lies in the area of modern Turkish Kurdistan and northern Syria. This is the region that Abraham repeatedly calls "the land of my nativity", and to which the patriarchs obtain wives for their children. Today these areas are mostly inhabited by Kurds, and are certainly not the Arab heartland. It is also doubtful that Arabic, a South Semitic language, evolved directly from Aramaic, a Western Semitic language, which is much closer to Hebrew (the language of Canaan, a north-West Semitic language).
