"The real reason lies in the fact that most Arab states are subservient to the United States. They don`t have true sovereignty. That is the crux of the matter". Khalid, Many thanks for your analysis and I share it wholeheartedly. I knew when I read Zvi Bar'el's analysis there was something missing as it didin't fully explain in my mind why other Arab states would forsake their brothers in Hamas. Especially, when I felt the Palestinian election may have been one of the cleanest democratic elections the Middle East. And it wasn't just because Jimmy Carter was monitoring it either but I attribute it to the events of the time and the Palestinian people Ernest desire for clean and effective government. Thus you can imagine my absolute horror and outrage when Israel and the US began to isolate Hamas. It was so shockingly cruel and unjust. Of course, it will never work either as it will only deepen peoples' resolve and they will fight it and win and as Mahatma Gandhi said below the people have always won? (See Gandhi below) To get back to the topic at hand. Indeed, it is strange the hold the US has on the Arab states. However, I feel it isn't unlike the hold the AIPAC has on US lawmakers in terms of votes or some of the Palestinians i have read about who are helping to build the Israeli wall against their own people because they have to feed their children. Yes, it is all so unjust and I am sure there will be consequence down the road for Israel and the US for tying Arab hands like this when Hamas' is in its hour of need. Many thanks again, Dutch P.S. Mahatma Gandhi When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall - think of it, ALWAYS. Mahatma Gandhi
