It's not easy to dust off a moribund peace process and find a way to move both sides, (the governments and their people), forward. John Kerry is the latest inculcation of an American bearing gifts. He has more power than George Mitchell, because he is Secretary of State and it is Obama's second and last term. He knows the players and has rekindled the API as a factor in goosing both Abbas and Netanyahu back to the negotiating table. With all the instability that is rampant in the region and the internal conflicts of both leaders motivating them to be cautious at best I believe it is necessary for the Secretary to light even more fires including generating international support and Israeli and Palestinian acceptance for a National Dialogue Project that begins an earnest long term conversation between Israelis and Palestinians on the contours of a peace agreement and in effect starts to prepare both peoples for the hard work of peacemaking and the realities of moving forward to identify real borders, acknowledge two independent and secure states and work together as two peoples to make it so.
