The most that you can say after reading Shlomo Sand, which relies on old evidence commonly known by scholars, is that Jews are a racial mixture from the ancient Israeliete inhabitants of the Holy Land combined with converts from other lands. Likewise, Palestinians, even if they have a racial link to ancient Israelites, no doubt have undergone several conversions over the decaces, not to mention intermarriage, just like the Jews. The only thing Sand's "The Invention of the Jewish People" proves is that in the ancient world, conversion to a dominant religion, be it Judaism or Islam, was fairly common. Applied to today, that would mean we would expect inhabitants of modern day Israel to convert to the dominant group. Since no one is seriously considering that, Shlomo Sand has very little bearing on any of these discussions.
