salut justine, (i tried to point this out commenting on several of your posts already, but haaretz never let them through) don't know why you consider PLO in need of a 'dusting off'. it is & has been the one & only pal. umbrella organization w/the highest authority overriding any other body. whenever there was a question of abbas negotiating w/israel it's been in the name of the PLO, so there's no change on that nor a need of one. the issue has been possibly that hamas who hasn't been a member of the PLO would try to change it & indeed hijack it (the way it already was able to hijack the PA for some time). as for 'fayyad's plan', i don't quite see what good it would do to the pals & their cause to make a unilateral declaration of statehood, one 'theoretically' having all the wished-for borders. the UNSCR could hardly back that & it would only complicate & lessen the chances for a comprehensive agreement w/israel, something both sides dearly need. none of the facts would change.
