Judaism and Islam have so much in common simply because Islam borrows many of its religious functions from the two predating monotheistic religions. The prophet Muhammad had experienced both religions (they were around at the time in the Arab peninsula) and took something from each of them. For example, the way Islamic prayer is done (kow-towing and all) is actually an ancient Christian tradition (you can see it in a lot of Christian art, when people proselytise themselves in front of saintly figures). Many Arabic words have their origins in Hebrew. The covering of women's heads, however, is ironically a relic from ancient Athens of the classical period, where women had virtually no rights (then again many monotheistic traditions are actually pagan. Christmas anyone?). Why can't these two similar religions get along? They was the same peice of land! Nothing more to it! Its the Crusades all over again, except that Islam is fighting Zionism/Judaism (secular/religious battles).
