Joschka Fischer has a long record about dealing with Iran. During his time as German FM, trade with the mullah regime in Tehran doubled. A collaboration treaty with Tehran on nuclear cooperation that could have been cancelled in 2002 was prolonged for another 5 years. Last spring it became known that the German government in which Fischer served as Vice Chancellor too, knew for years about illegal German transfer of spare parts for the Iranian Air Force as well as for the nuclear reactor in Busheer, and kept silent about it. As German TV revealed a few days ago, for more than 20 years and with the explicit knowledge of the German secret service BND, German shipments for the secret nuclear programme of the mullahs continued, especially regarding highly sophisticated technology for the facilities in Natanz and Arak. And now Fischer is prescribing diplomacy!
