Many women, killed by partners, had fled to shelters but went home when support ended.09:23 14.02.16 | 0 comments
Jonathan, I think you are right when you say that there is not another country without a horrible record of unchecked police brutality. I think this is what the police force is really all about. After all - commit a crime and you face violence from the police (being locked up after trial is very violent after all). That's the whole idea behind the state. The point is that it is rare to see such flagrant hypocrisy - a state claiming to be "democratic" and able to kill dozens of its own citizens due to their race with impunity. When some states do this there is typically a cover up - "We made an honest mistake" said the British cops after shooting the Brazillian man to death. When the New York police shot dead Diallo they said he was pulling a gun (it was his house keys). There is a cover story because they know that the population they police needs to be convinced that they serve a just purpose. Yet in Israel - as is clear from the racist and genocidal posts on this list - this is not the case. No cover story is needed as no one believes it except the willfully blind. Israel is a state that kills Arabs because they are Arabs. It is not yet on a genocidal scale but the blood lust is clearly there amongst many of its supporters.
