rejected it. There's no question that there were Jewish settlements inside what was to have become Palestine, and there's also no question that they were prepared to defend themselves if attacked. HOWEVER, had both sides (i.e had the Arab side) accepted the a partition there would have arisen two states - one Jewish one which also contained Arab settlements and one Arab one which also contained Jewish settlements. The side which started the war is the side which rejected the partition - that that was the Arab side.
