John, The only time in recent memory that the city of Jerusalem has had freedom of religion for all reglions is the period since the 1967 Six Day War until the present. When the Jordanians captured the Jewish portion of East Jersualem in the 1948 war, Jews were banished and ethnically 'cleansed' from the eastern part of the city, where they had been living for centuries. Now, Johh, I can see from your letter that you are very much concerned about international law, so I would like to hear your opinion about the ethnic 'cleansing' that I just mentioned. If you need to, please take the time to look up the events that I just mentioned, so that you can verify the truth of them.
