Surely Israel is a Jewish state if Israelis say it is? So, if Israelis say it is, then it is and they scarcely need Palestinian permission. If there is any doubt about it, it seems to me a matter for an Israeli referendum. I really do not see how the security of a territory, which is what is being talked about, can be meaningfully discussed before the territory is defined. The present ‘insecurity’ of the territory is surely precisely because there is no mutual acceptance of where Israeli frontiers begin and end. If those frontiers are agreed it becomes an international responsibility, not just a Palestinian one, to see that they are secure.
