Understandably the concept of Jewish ethnicity is a complex one. In the same moment being Jewish is both and neither religion or ethnicity. The existence of Ethiopian Jews in comparison to Russian Jews would lead to the religious leaning of the group, but what of the millions of people, born to Jewish parents (or technically at least the mother) who are admitted atheists, who still cannot disavow thousands of years of history, culture, humour, food, jokes, music, art, celebrations etc. Every ethnicity that exist is in some way socially constructed and is not without its own anecdotal examples of flaws bringing it away from perfect definition. This is simply how Jews identify themselves.
