You are mistaken about the legal basis of the right of return residing in UNSCR242. It is actually based on The Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 10 December 1948, Article 13(2): "Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country." And in The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) of 1966, Article 12, paras 1 & 4: "Everyone shall be free to leave any country, including his own?.No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of the right to enter his own country". The Nov 99 addendum to the ICCPR makes clear that the Palestinians' right to return doesn't change just because their home has since become part of a new country (Israel), but explicitly states that the right to go home applies to "... individuals whose country of nationality has been incorporated in or transferred to another national entity, whose nationality is being denied them.)
