Ivo, you are right that my predictions have proven quite accurate. Would have saved people a lot of heart ache if they could just go thru my little calculation. (My prediction for Kadima was the max I could offer; realistically, I expected a higher percentage of right wing voters actually voting and, correspondingly, fewer Kadima seats.) As you say, a natural coalition now will be Kadima, Labor, Meretz, Pensioners. It will not be bad to also bring in Agudah. When many in the religious right wing claim that it is against Halakha to evacuate areas, it is not bad to pull the rug from under them and show at least as pious a group as they are going along with that idea. (I have never considered Shas appropriate, despite various analysts' claims that they were "in". Rabbi Yoseph issued a Halakhic ruling against the Gaza evac. How can he change his mind now?) The evacuation plan will cause much stress in Israeli society. I don't think this is the time to also fight over Church/State.
