Melissa, these restrictions apply to both men and women as well. Men would not be allowed to pray in the womens' section just as women would not be allowed to pray in the mens' section. This separation is not about inequality. It is to preserve the purity of thought that is required during prayer to G-d. Seeing a woman shuckling in front of a man could easily lead to stray, inappropriate thoughts during prayer. Also, just as it is viewed as a perversion for a woman to wear a religious object that was commanded for men to wear, a man would not be allowed at the western wall wearing a woman's religious objects either. If a man walked into the mens' section wearing a veil head-covering, or a woman's sheitel (wig) they would be throw out as well. Or a skirt for that matter.
