In the arab world there is always a sure way to get the people on your side and thats blame it on Israel. The purpose Israel serves is to provide a focus for arab hatred and creates a common enemy. The arabs have been fighting the idea of a jewish state from before independence so thats not the problem it is the fact there is an Israel full stop. The hostile dictators need Israel to survive. They make their people believe Israel wants to come ands kill them all but as he the dictator is the peoples champion and it is a distraction from them asking to many questions about why they have it bad themselves. Men like Assad cannot afford to make peace even if he did legitimately want it ( which he doesn't ) if he has made peace with Israel why does he need to protect the Syrian people from Israel even if its just a piece of paper peace in the eyes of the people he has got rid of the threat so now they can start asking themselves what is Assad doing wrong.... Dictators need enemies. In the Middle East its Israel, in places like North Korea its the US, religious regimes like the Taliban pick and choose enemies which suit them at that current point in time. As long as there is a common enemy its easier to control the masses so the arabs need Israel.
