Olmert didn't appreciate Livni's abilities and kept her out of the decision making. Whether rightly or wrongly, she was not really involved in Cast Lead. The problem with Cast Lead, as with the other Olmert war (Lebanon II) was that it had no clear and achievable goals. The IDF tried to avoid direct fights with Hamas so as to minimize its casualties. But this shows that the goal was not to take over Gaza but to punish it. When all proper (and improper targets were bombed after the first few days, Olmert insisted on prolonging the bombing. The result was bombings that amounted to war crimes. However this worked, Livni had nothing to do with it. Good for her, she can't be accused of war crimes.
