It was impossible to convince anyone in Germany and Japan, in 1938, that their leaders were leading them into disaster. It is even impossible to convince the sort of people who supported Hitler and Tojo now, the people who support Bush and Olmert, that their infantile fantasies of omnipotence and invulnerability are insane. Hitler believed that he could lie about Poland attacking Germany, conquer Poland (less the part promised to Russia) and the world would not stand up to him. Tojo believed that if the US fleet was sunk at Pearl Harbor and the Philippines occupied, the US would sue for peace. The psychopaths who worshiped Hitler and Tojo could not imagine that their fantasies were contrary to reality. It has been the fortune of the world that the psycho-right in both Germany and Japan were largely exterminated in their quest for world domination. I would rather not see similar casualties imposed on Israel and the US to divorce us from domination by the same kind of psychopaths.
