It's one of Israel's most dangerous attitudes that it takes Egypt for granted, ignoring its wishes and assuming it could never be a threat again. - Comment - Israel News | Haaretz Daily Newspaper

Israel farts around with the non-esxistent threat of Iran nuking it, whinging about existential threats, when right next door there is an existential potential threat that could become real any day. Israel has failed to make anyone in Egypt love it, and if Egypt turns hostile, Israel is suddenly back in the bad days of the 1960s and 1970s when it faces a REAL existential threat not a fake Iranian one drummed up by Likudnik extremists. With a succession crisis just around the corner in Egypt, Israel ought to be amking huge efforts to defuse Gaza and please the Egyptian poulace. For a start, it could sack the foreign minister who threatened to bomb the Aswan Dam.
