Some of the indisputably most democratic countries in the world have no need for voting machinery. A piece of paper and an ordinary pencil do the job, and final election results are usually reported a few hours after the end of voting. Meanwhile, the U.S. – and apparently Israel – is struggling with faulty and manipulated voting machines that only complicate matters.
