It must be understood that there are those on both sides whom not only fear peace, they hate it. They are lovers of death and destruction, and only by entertaining fantasies of total death and destruction inflicted upon their respective enemies can they fully feel alive. This is not to argue that a degree of prudence and circumspection should be entertained when approaching any 'peace process.' One thing is absolutely certain. The current situation - existing for the last 40 years and seriously deteriorating over the last 30 of those - is a disaster for both Israel and Palestine and can never improve. The question of whether to continue failure or entertain change hardly needs elaboration. Who will dominate the argument? Those whom are wary, but sane enough to recognize the need for change; or those who are sadomasochists and wish to preserve the current situation?
