As usual, Aluf Benn and Haaretz have it precisely backward. Obama assured both Israelis and Americans prior to the election that Iran would not be allowed to obtain the bomb and that "all options were on the table". Obama got Netanyahu to agree "unprecedented" concessions (thank you Hilary) toward the Palestinians for an empty promise that they would return to the negotiating table and the Arabs would begin to normalize relations with Israel. Obama has reneged or failed on all fronts and it is Netanyahu standing his ground that has made this obvious for even Obama's most naive leftist supporters. It is Netanyahu that has called Obama's bluff. Obama has sunk 20% in the polls, faces criticism for his handling of the conflict from his own party, and has absolutely no chance of convincing Israelis on the right or the left to bend to his will. The operative question is not how Netanyahu will respond to Obama's ultimatum but rather, how will Obama respond to a quagmire of his own making?
