    I am an American Jewish woman. Five years ago, I took a last minute vacation to New Orleans. When I went through security at my local airport, I was sent to a separate line for passengers requiring extra security checks. They took my sneakers and my driver's license and performed a complete patdown with no privacy. Then a guard opened my carry-on bag and removed everything I had packed so carefully. She even looked inside my tubes of lipstick. On the flight back from New Orleans, it was even worse. Though I arrived at the airport three hours early, security didn't notice that my ticket was flagged because I had made my reservations so late. When I went to board the plan, I was taken aside and questioned. A female guard patted me down and checked inside my shirt and my bra right at the gate. (continued)
