Since Israel would much rather continue to expand west bank settlements than to make a final peace agreement, it is in Israeli interests to pursue a peace agreement that has no chance of success, as Yusef has pointed out. This way Israel can get credit for pursuing peace without the restrictions which would be imposed by actually achieving peace. This is simply a new wrinkle on an old strategy. All Israeli peace strategies are designed to fail. How is it possible to achieve a peace with the Palestinians without making an agreement with Hamas, the primary attackers?
