What Israels political establishment and many of Israels citizens are still failing to understand: Over the past years, Israel (through the conduct of her political establishment) has unfortunately gotten the world wide image of a nation, which is not playing with open cards. Be it the whole question of the settlements, be it Ariel Sharon during the second Intifada setting one condition after the other on the Palestinians, or be it the never ending excuses for not having to discuss the core issues with the Palestinians. The problem for Israel is, that this is not only the perception of a broader public within the European societies, no it has gotten a foothold deep into the world of the political decision makers (probably with the exception of the U.S.), even if they will not admit it publicly. And I'm afraid, patience there is slowly but surely running out.
