Thatcher smashed the power of the unions, sold off state owned companies. When Argentina invaded the Falklands the US wanted her to negotiate a land for pace solution ( for decades successive British governments had been looking for a way to get rid of the islands ). Thatcher though was not going to let the Argentinians take this British territory by force so rather than land for peace sell out solution she decided to send thousands of troops to the Falklands to kick out the Argentinians by force. Can anybody seriously imagine Israel producing its own Thatcher. Going after the Hstadrut alone would create huge protests probably strikes and the majority of the political parties in the collation would be afraid to stay in a coalition if they felt it would hurt their own interests to stay so they would pull out and force an election. Netanyahu has tried privatising some of the state owned companies and the left are already furious and demanding he ends privatisation. These days in Israel land for peace is the fashionable solution rather than go un guns blazing. Thatcher believed her greatest legacy was Tony Blair because he had turned Labor into more of a soft Conservative government killing any hopes that the old left had of ever returning to power. In Israel there is just not enough political stability to make it possible for us to create our own Thatcher and if we did Haaretz would be attacking every single policy she made she would be an object of hate for the left in this country.
