It is interesting to compare US and world coverage of General Jones's speech to J Street with the Israeli coverage. Israel, in horror of any opposition to the ultra-right AIPAC, is utterly hostile to J Street. General Jones split the difference in many ways. He made it clear that the influence of J Street was welcome as it represented the vast majority of American Jews and opposed the view that only an ultra-right wing government in the US could be anything but a threat to Israel. To Israel J Street is just another component of the Great Peace Scare of 2009, and overkill is necessary. The problem with having a blatant 'Kill Ugly Peace' policy is that the world, and the USA might eventually catch on. And there is always the problem of what happens if Obama grows a testicle and takes on those intent upon destroying him. The counter-attack against the Health Insurance industry is paying off bit. Obama might be a nice guy, but he is also smart enough to learn.
