Israel without God is not Israel, that is a fact. However, this doesn't mean that Israel cannot modernise its way of living. The Chief Rabbi speaks of others trying to "impose the lifestyle of other nations on us,": I understand where he is coming from; but isn't this normal? I mean, if Jews from all over make alliyah every year, isn't it natural that they bring into Yisrael the lifestyle they were used to in galut? And shouldn't this new lifestyle be viewed as enriching? All cultures evolve by contact with other customs. Nevertheless, I understand Chief Rabbi's concern with the increasing violence: Portugal experienced the same with the increase of East European immigrants; but we are dealing with it calmly.
