israel prevailed against what should have been overwhelming strength in 1948. It attacked Egypt in 1056 with great success, protected by France and England. It succeeded in an amazingly successful sneak attack in 1967 and managed to turn the tide with overwhelming victory in 1973. Yes, Israel had great reason for it's arrogance towards Arabs. Peace Treaties with Egypt over 30 years ago, and with Jordan after it appeared Israel would make peace with the Palestinians, have served Israel well. Yet Israeli arrogance towards Arabs has prevented any improvement in the last quarter of it's history. Ashkenazi tells us "the events in Egypt prove that we need to be modest and careful in our assessments about the Arab world." Good advice. Democracy in Egypt will probably lead to a more critical and less compliant nation, yet further secure the peace for no despot might easily change things. Thirty two years has proven peace is possible. Why does Israel resist further peace? Is the reason that Israelis have contempt for Arabs? Even Israeli Arabs?
