I have met several black South Africans who visited Israel and Palestine and could not help but notice the similarities -- they said some things that Israel does to Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza is even worse than what was done to them by the Afrikaaners. Colonialism is outdated. Racial supremacism is out of fashion. Apartheid South Africa fell, even though the black resistance fighters were called terrorists by Reagan and others. It came to a head with boycotts, at first tentative, and then full-on. Israel simply can't imprison over 3 million Palestinians inside ever-smaller cages and get away with it for long. It's up to the international community to convince Israel of what it needs to do -- namely a Palestinian state in the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem with real sovereignty -- before too many more Israeli and Palestinian lives are destroyed needlessly.
