Cast Lead was militarily and politically HOPELESS. Israel killed maybe a couple of hundred fighters - not a fraction of 1% of Hamas's numbers - but a thousand civilians. It blitzed a civilian area and lost international credibility and support big style. Lest we forget, it is still facing war crime charges. A Cast Lead 2 will be no different or better. Israel will no more fight a house-to-house close quarter battle than Netanyahu will close illegal outposts, neither have the stomach for a real fight. So more bombs on civilians and water treatment plants, more war crimes charges, more international condemnation, but no better an outcome than last time. Israel needs to do a deal with Hamas, man to man, it's the only way. But as that would undermine its arrogant hubris and over-inflated self-importance, it isn't going to happen. Another war will at least give Obama an eye-opener about what this little M-E 'ally' is really like and focus minds on sorting Israel out once and for all.
