What is holding Israel back is the palestenian refusal to recognize Israel as the national homeland of the Jews (not even the national homeland of the Jews and everyone born there...), because doing so would mean they give up on the claimed right to return. The right of return is the destruction of Israel as a homeland for Jews, period. Probably the end of deocracy there, since a Pal majority would vote an Arab government into power andthen make Jews life misserable. Quite a "clean" way to finally beat Israel.
