The current generation of lithium-ion batteries are still too expensive to be competitive with oil. Israeli universities must be subsidized by the government as generously as possible to invent new batteries within 5 years. UNLESS we find cheaper batteries, this new method will not work. The range issue of the batteries has been solved already by the Better Place company, but the price of batteries is still high. More efforts are needed to make cheaper and better batteries, and this is where academic research is important, and only government grants can do that. If the world can free itself from oil, this can save the world from a new Great Depression, and it can even prevent WW III.
