Turkey was the only regional friend that was not paid an annual stipend to maintain good relations with Israel. Because of this Turkey has less reason than Egypt or Jordan to keep that relationship when Israel offended them. Some Israelis will argue that Turkey gave offense first. They should remember that the entire world, including America objected to the Gaza blockade. For Turkey, maintaining friendly relations with Israel and, at the same time ignoring the Gaza blockade placed Turkey in an untenable and hypocritical position. Some Israelis will argue that Turkey sent terrorists to attack the IDF. This is nonsense and they should admit this. Knives and staves were the only weapons on the flotilla. These may have been viable weapons two thousand years ago (barely), but they are not the weapons of choice for a small band expecting to encounter the Israeli army, navy, and air force. We understand that the IDF is not exactly a major league military, but they are provided will massive military hardware. Israel should be prepared to make occasional voluntary sacrifices for the sake of their own greater good. This never happens though because Israelis have become used to having America cover their back under any circumstances. This fact has made Israel extreme and reckless. It has made Israel sacrifice their relations with nearly every nation in the world and it has returned nothing.
