America's first real interest in iran came when America and the Uk staged a coup to give Iran to the Shah. The Shah repaid America and the UK by being a good friend to them and, in return, they asked no questions about the harsh treatment of the Iranian people. After many years of this, the Iranians overthrew the Shah. A few years later, America supported Saddam as he started a very long, very costly war with Iran. Iraq even used some small scale WMD to wipe out whole Iranian villages. In the end, Iran was winning this war and advanced into Iraq near the Iraqi oilfields. America hurridly gained international support to stop that war with the same borders in place at the beginning. Now America and Israel are the main proponents behind a large number of crippling sanctions against Iran because they suspect that Iran is trying to gain balance of power with Israel. America's record with Iran is not one to be proud of. Still the Iranian people have proven to be very resilient and tenacious. Israel is cheerleading an American attack on Iran just as they did for the American attack on Iraq. America has shown that they don't know how to pick their friends. An attack on iran will show that they don't know how to pick their enemies as well.
