"waiting for passengers to give a rose to you?" in a way, this was a legitimate expectation. Sadly, the fact it proved to be incorrect speaks volumes of how the Left is losing its way. the israeli argument is that these were bad-faith protesters. When someone is caught by the police (even wrongly) and put their hands in the air, it means they have no intention on fighting. Similarly, when a ship of "peace activists" puts up a white flag, they are saying they have surrendered and have no intention to fight. I too am troubled by the recent events, but i feel that these protesters violated the sacrosanct value of the white flag, and misrepresented themselves as civilians with no belligerent intention (the level of violence seen on tape surpasses the usual petty violence you see at anti-G8 protests and the like). They purposely brought civilians aboard (why was a baby doing on the freakin boat?!) and used a white flag to mask their belligerent intentions. There is something Hamas-esque about these methods. The sad thing to me, is that this does as much damage to the reputation of the Left (in israel, and indeed on a global scale), as Israel and other governments will just further view protesters with greater suspicion, and perhaps rightly so.
