The expiration of the settlement freeze is a clear sign to the rest of the world that Israel is not serious when it comes to a peace agreement. It is depressing that domestic political concerns can jeopardize an issue of such worldwide importance. Abbas and Fayyad have done more than any other negotiating partner Israel has had in recent history to tamp down violence and enter negotiations in good faith. If settlements resume it is a slap in the face to their efforts and to anyone in the world who wishes for peace in the Middle East.
